Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour: A Paid Experience

Author : Jack Update:Apr 22,2025

Nintendo has unveiled an exciting addition to the launch lineup of the Nintendo Switch 2: the Switch 2 Welcome Tour. This innovative game is not just a simple introduction but a full-fledged digital experience designed to familiarize players with the new hardware. Contrary to what many might expect, the Switch 2 Welcome Tour is not a free pack-in but a separate, paid digital game that will be available for purchase on the Nintendo eShop starting on the Switch 2's launch day.

During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo showcased the Switch 2 Welcome Tour as a "virtual exhibition" of the new console. According to Nintendo, "through tech demos, minigames, and other interactions, players will get to know the new system inside and out in ways they may never have known about otherwise." The footage presented featured a small player avatar navigating a giant-sized version of the Switch 2, exploring its various features and learning fascinating facts. The game resembles a virtual museum but also includes interactive minigames such as Speed Golf, Dodge the Spiked Balls, and a Maracas Physics Demo, adding an engaging layer to the learning experience.

Despite its educational value and novelty, the decision to make the Switch 2 Welcome Tour a paid digital-only game has sparked curiosity among fans. Many are questioning why it isn't bundled with the console, especially given its purpose as an introduction to the new system. As of now, no specific price has been announced for the game.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch with an impressive lineup of titles including Mario Kart World, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster, and Deltarune Chapters 1 through 4. With such competition for consumer spending on launch day, the Switch 2 Welcome Tour will need to stand out to justify its separate purchase.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will hit the market on June 5, 2025, with a starting price of $449.99 USD. For those looking to dive into Mario Kart World right away, a bundle option is available at $499.99.
