Nintendo Switch 2\'s Rumored C Button May Have a Weird Function [UPDATED]

Author : Penelope Update:Feb 25,2025

Updated January 14: This article's original Discord server link has been corrected to reflect the accurate source of the datamining information. The original article follows:

Key Findings

  • Rumors suggest the Nintendo Switch 2's additional "C" button facilitates chat functions.
  • Recent datamining reveals a potential group and voice chat feature, codenamed "Campus," for the Switch 2.
  • The official Nintendo Switch 2 reveal is anticipated for January 16th.

A recent report suggests the rumored "C" button on the Nintendo Switch 2 may be dedicated to chat functionality. This could significantly clarify a key mystery surrounding the upcoming console's hardware.

Since late 2024, numerous leaks have surfaced regarding the Switch 2, likely due to the console entering mass production. These leaks consistently show an extra button—a dark gray "C"—located on the right Joy-Con, below the home button. However, the button's function remained unknown until now.

Datamining of the latest Switch OS reveals a feature codenamed "Campus," potentially a group and voice chat system for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, according to a report from a Discord server focused on Switch 2 information.

Nintendo Switch 2: Screen Sharing Capabilities

The same source indicates "Campus" might include screen sharing for groups of up to 12 users. While the codename starts with "C," the button's function is more likely "chat" than "Campus" itself. This contradicts earlier speculation that the "C" button would be used for screen casting.

Potential Conflict with Switch's Family-Friendly Focus

Group and voice chats necessitate internet connectivity, likely restricting them to NSO subscribers. This is a significant consideration, given the original Switch's deliberate avoidance of such features to maintain its kid-friendly appeal. Reintroducing chat functionality, similar to the Miiverse text chat, could raise concerns Nintendo may wish to avoid.

The existence and purpose of the "C" button, along with other unanswered questions about the Switch 2, may be resolved soon. Multiple sources point to an official announcement on Thursday, January 16th.
