During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled that nearly its entire catalog for the original Nintendo Switch will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Excitingly, select titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, complete with unique features. The showcased games include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game boasts distinct enhancements. The first game highlighted was Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces a feature dubbed "Jamboree TV". This upgrade includes mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced haptic feedback described as "more expressive rumble", and innovative gameplay utilizing a new camera accessory.
Next up were The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, both slated to receive upgrades in resolution, framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, they will benefit from a new feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes, offering voice guidance to locate Shrines and Koroks, alongside the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to feature a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 titled Star-Crossed World, coupled with improved graphics and framerates.
Among the new titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will introduce mouse control capabilities and boast 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR. Meanwhile, Pokemon Legends: Z-A will see enhancements in resolution and framerates.
These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Furthermore, for owners of the original versions on the Nintendo Switch, upgrade packs will be available for purchase for games such as Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby.
