Obsidian Entertainment provides a positive update on the development of The Outer Worlds 2, alongside their other projects.
Obsidian CEO Confirms Smooth Progress on The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed
Obsidian Remains Confident in Upcoming Releases
According to Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart, development of The Outer Worlds 2 is progressing well. While the studio's primary focus remains on the fantasy RPG Avowed, Urquhart reassured fans that the Outer Worlds sequel is "going really well," thanks to a dedicated and experienced team.
In a recent YouTube interview with Limit Break Network, Urquhart praised the Outer Worlds 2 team, highlighting their experience and understanding of the franchise. He acknowledged past challenges, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the studio's acquisition by Microsoft. These factors, coupled with simultaneous development of titles like Grounded and Pentiment, created significant hurdles. Urquhart candidly admitted a period of strained development, even mentioning internal discussions about potentially halting The Outer Worlds 2 to prioritize Avowed. However, the studio ultimately persevered, maintaining its commitment to all projects.
Urquhart recounted the complexities of navigating acquisition, the pandemic, and simultaneous development of multiple titles. He emphasized the successful outcomes of Grounded and Pentiment, and expressed confidence in the progress of both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, describing the latter as "looking incredible." While specific game details remain undisclosed, the recent delay of Avowed to 2025 suggests potential timeline adjustments for other projects.
Announced in 2021, The Outer Worlds 2 has seen limited updates. Urquhart acknowledged this and the possibility of a launch date shift, mirroring the situation with Avowed. Despite these challenges, he reaffirmed Obsidian's dedication to delivering high-quality games, stating that while initial timelines may not be met, the studio is committed to releasing all projects successfully. Both The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed are slated for release on PC and Xbox Series S/X.
