This guide explores the Paralyze effect in Pokémon TCG Pocket, a digital adaptation of the popular card game. The guide covers what Paralyze is, how it works, how to cure it, and strategies for building a deck around it.
What is Paralyzed in Pokémon TCG Pocket?
Paralyze is a Special Condition that prevents the opponent's Active Pokémon from attacking or retreating for one turn. This effect automatically ends at the start of the opponent's next turn (after their Checkup phase).
Paralyzed vs. Asleep
Both Paralyze and Asleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Paralyze resolves automatically, while Asleep requires a coin flip or specific card effects to cure.
Paralyzed in Pokémon Pocket vs. Physical TCG
Unlike the physical TCG, Pokémon Pocket currently lacks Trainer cards that specifically counter Paralyze. However, the core mechanic remains the same: a Paralyzed Pokémon is inactive for one turn.
Which Cards Inflict Paralyze?
Currently, only three cards in the Genetic Apex expansion inflict Paralyze: Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno. Each uses a coin flip, making it a somewhat unreliable strategy.
How to Cure Paralyze
Four methods exist to cure Paralysis:
- Time: The effect ends automatically after the opponent's next turn.
- Evolution: Evolving the Paralyzed Pokémon removes the effect.
- Retreat: Retreating the Pokémon removes the effect (as Bench Pokémon cannot have Special Conditions).
- Support Cards: Currently, only Koga's effect works against Paralysis, but only under specific conditions (Weezing or Muk).
The Best Paralyze Deck?
Paralyze alone is not a strong deck archetype. Combining it with Asleep, however, can be effective. A suggested combination uses Articuno & Frosmoth, leveraging both effects for a more consistent strategy. This deck also incorporates cards like Wigglytuff ex to enhance the strategy.
Sample Paralyze/Asleep Deck List
Card | Quantity |
---|---|
Wigglypuff ex | 2 |
Jigglypuff | 2 |
Snom | 2 |
Frosmoth | 2 |
Articuno | 2 |
Misty | 2 |
Sabrina | 2 |
X Speed | 2 |
Professor's Research | 2 |
Poke Ball | 2 |
This deck list provides a starting point for building a Paralyze-focused deck in Pokémon TCG Pocket. Remember that the game's meta is constantly evolving, so experimentation is key.
