Will Persona 5: The Phantom X Come to America?

SEGA's recent financial report for the fiscal year ending March 2024 hints at a potential global release for Persona 5: The Phantom X (P5X), the popular gacha spin-off. The report indicates that the game's initial performance is meeting expectations and that expansion into both Japan and global markets is under consideration.

Currently in Open Beta in Select Asian Regions

Licensed by Atlus, Persona 5: The Phantom X initially soft-launched in China on April 12, 2024, followed by Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, and Taiwan on April 18th. Published by Perfect World Games and developed by Black Wings Game Studio, the game is currently in open beta.

Players step into the shoes of "Wonder," a high school student who moonlights as a Persona-wielding Phantom Thief, fighting against societal injustices.

Wonder's initial Persona is Janosik, inspired by Slovakian folklore and embodying a Robin Hood-esque archetype. The game features a familiar cast, including Joker from the main Persona 5 series, alongside a new character, YUI.

Maintaining the core elements of the Persona series, P5X blends turn-based combat, social simulation, and dungeon crawling with a gacha system for character acquisition.

New Roguelike Game Mode: Heart Rail

Popular Persona content creator, Faz, showcased the new Heart Rail roguelike game mode in his recent gameplay video. This mode, similar to *Honkai: Star Rail*'s Simulated Universe, offers power-up choices, diverse maps, and rewarding challenges.

Strong Sales for SEGA's Full Game Category

SEGA reported consistent sales of new titles from its Japanese studios, alongside strong repeat sales of previously released games. This includes Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (1 million units sold globally in its first week), Persona 3 Reload (1 million units globally in its first week – Atlus' fastest-selling title ever), and Football Manager 2024 (9 million players since its November launch).

SEGA's FY25 Forecast and Business Restructuring

To further capitalize on growth, SEGA announced a restructuring, creating a new "Gaming Business" segment. This segment will focus on expanding online gaming, aiming to establish a significant presence in the North American market as a third pillar of their business model. Beyond online gaming, the segment will encompass SEGA SAMMY CREATION's slot machine operations and PARADISE SEGASAMMY's integrated resort businesses.

SEGA projects increased sales and profits year-on-year for FY2025, with the Full Game segment expecting 93 billion Yen (approximately $597 million USD) in revenue—a 5.4% increase from FY2024. A new Sonic title is also anticipated for release next year.
