The Pokémon GO Tour Pass: A Free & Paid Adventure

With Niantic's frequent introduction of in-app purchases, many Pokémon GO players immediately ask about the cost. The surprise? The new Pokémon GO Tour Pass is free! But what exactly does it offer?

Understanding the Pokémon GO Tour Pass

Introduced with the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova global event, the Tour Pass revolves around completing tasks to earn Tour Points. These points unlock rewards, boost your rank, and enhance event bonuses during the Unova event.

The standard Tour Pass is free, automatically awarded to players starting February 24th at 10 AM local time. However, a paid version, the Tour Pass Deluxe ($14.99 USD or equivalent), offers an instant Victini encounter, upgraded rewards, and faster progression.

Earning & Utilizing Tour Points

Tour Points are earned through familiar in-game activities: catching Pokémon, completing raids, hatching eggs, and daily Pass Tasks. These points unlock rewards, increase your rank within the Tour Pass tiers, and unlock various rewards (Pokémon encounters, Candy, Poké Balls, etc.).

Higher ranks also boost your Catch XP bonus during Pokémon GO Tour: Unova:

  • 1.5x Catch XP at Tier 2
  • 2x Catch XP at Tier 3
  • 3x Catch XP at Tier 4

Niantic has yet to reveal all rewards, hinting at further bonuses. The free Pass culminates in a Zorua encounter with a unique background, while the Deluxe Pass offers a Lucky Trinket.

The Lucky Trinket, the Deluxe Pass's ultimate reward, is a single-use item transforming a friend into a Lucky Friend. This allows for Lucky Pokémon trades without needing Best Friend status (Great Friends are required to use the item). Note: Lucky Trinkets obtained during GO Tour: Unova expire on March 9, 2025.
