Pokémon Company Tackles TCG Shortages, Scalpers Post-Destined Rivals Launch

Author : Eric Update:Apr 25,2025

The Pokémon Company has taken a significant step to address the persistent issues fans have faced in securing recent Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) sets. In an official statement, the company confirmed plans for reprints and emphasized their ongoing efforts to ensure more products reach eager fans.

The launch of the latest set, Destined Rivals, was marred by product shortages, pre-order complications, and the influence of scalpers. Similarly, other sought-after sets like Prismatic Evolutions and the Blooming Waters box have been notoriously hard to come by due to overwhelming demand.

In their statement on the Pokémon website, The Pokémon Company (TPC) acknowledged the challenges fans face in purchasing certain Pokémon TCG products due to high demand and limited availability. "We understand this inconvenience can be disappointing for fans, and we are actively working to print more of the impacted Pokémon TCG products as quickly as possible and at maximum capacity," the statement assured. They added that reprints would be available at participating retailers as soon as possible.

To prevent future shortages, TPC plans to "maximize production" for upcoming TCG expansions, aiming to increase product availability right from launch. They also committed to "continue reprinting impacted products" to maintain stock levels, particularly for the Pokémon Center.

Addressing the issue of scalpers indirectly, TPC mentioned their commitment to providing a seamless purchasing experience on the Pokémon Center. They currently utilize a virtual queue system during high-traffic periods to prioritize fans. "We will continue to explore measures that help create the best possible experience for Pokémon Center customers," the company stated, expressing gratitude for the community's patience and support as they strive to improve product distribution.

Fans are hopeful that these promises will translate into action, easing the stress of collecting and playing the Pokémon TCG when new sets are released.
