Sonic Rumble is making waves even before its global debut with a special crossover featuring SEGA's most iconic characters. Dubbed Crossover Event #0: SEGA Stars, this limited-time event runs through May 7th, concluding just before the game's worldwide launch on May 8th.
Currently in soft launch across 40+ countries, Sonic Rumble went through two pre-launch phases earlier this year. The first wave included regions like the Philippines, Scandinavia, and Colombia, while the second expanded to Canada, Turkey, Malaysia, South Africa, and other territories.
What Awaits Players?
If you're in a soft-launch region, you can experience the Sonic Rumble SEGA Stars crossover firsthand. The event brings back classic Altered Beast transformations, starting with a freely available Werewolf form.
Nostalgia hunters can also unlock additional beast modes: the Werebear (purchasable with standard in-game currency) and Premium Pass-exclusive Weredragon. Fantasy Zone fans will delight in seeing Opa-Opa (Premium Pass) and Upa-Upa (available for 700 rings each) join the roster.
Super Monkey Ball characters AiAi and MeeMee complete the crossover lineup, with AiAi requiring 729 Red Star Rings to unlock. Check out the official crossover trailer below for a sneak peek:
Exclusive Rewards Await
Players can collect special SEGA logos during matches to earn bonus rewards. While some might find it unusual for such an event to precede the global launch, SEGA has assured players these exclusive items will likely return in future updates.
This inaugural crossover successfully blends SEGA's rich gaming history with its current offerings, creating an appealing mix of retro and modern elements. Watching characters like Sonic interact with Super Monkey Ball's primates and Altered Beast's were-creatures demonstrates the game's potential.
Sonic Rumble will be available globally on May 8th. In the meantime, players in soft-launch regions can download it from the Google Play Store. Don't miss our coverage of Vampire Survivors' new SaGa-inspired DLC, Emerald Diorama, including details about its cross-save functionality.
