The anticipation surrounding Silksong reached fever pitch following a series of events involving William Pellen, one of the game's creators, and his Twitter (now X) activity. On January 15th, 2025, Pellen tweeted "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow," a message many interpreted as a hint towards the leaked Switch 2 reveal scheduled for the 16th. The usual inquiries about Silksong's release followed, but Pellen's subsequent actions only intensified the speculation.

The January 16th, 2025 Switch 2 announcement included a confirmation of an upcoming Nintendo Direct on April 2nd, 2025. A keen-eyed fan noticed Pellen had changed his profile picture to a slice of cake. A reverse image search revealed the image originated from a Bon Appetit article featuring a Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe, published… on April 2nd, 2024.

Pellen also commented on the article with "mmmm tasty," prompting a flurry of fan comments connecting the cake to Silksong. One fan even declared, "if we get real silksong news by April 2nd 2025, I will bake this cake," while another commented, "Loved the silky texture. This goes directly in my favourite recipes," cleverly linking the cake's texture to the game and the upcoming Nintendo Direct.

It's important to note that there's no definitive proof Pellen authored the cake-related comment. However, the profile picture change is undeniable, leaving fans to ponder whether it's a genuine hint or simply a coincidence.

Hollow Knight: Silksong – A Five-Year Wait

Initially announced on February 14th, 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong was slated for release on Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The game, a sequel following Hornet's adventures, has been shrouded in mystery since a soundtrack preview in December 2019.

After a long period of silence, Pellen reassured fans in February 2022 that development was ongoing, promising updates closer to release. A June 2022 trailer during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase offered new gameplay footage and confirmed the game's inclusion in Game Pass.

Despite initial hopes for a 2023 release, a delay was confirmed in May 2023 by Team Cherry representative Matthew Griffin. He explained, "We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing...We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."
