Smite 2's Open Beta Launches with Aladdin and More!

Smite 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular MOBA, has launched its free-to-play open beta across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), and Steam Deck. This launch coincides with a significant content update.

A year in the making and built using Unreal Engine 5, Smite 2 boasts improved visuals and refined combat mechanics. The revamped item shop offers greater flexibility, allowing players to equip items regardless of their chosen god's classification. Core gameplay remains true to its predecessor: players select gods from diverse mythologies to engage in 5v5 battles.

This open beta introduces a wealth of new content, headlined by Aladdin, a completely new god designed specifically for Smite 2. Aladdin's unique abilities include wall-running and a three-wish revival mechanic tied to his companion. His ultimate ability involves using his lamp to trap enemies in a 1v1 duel.

Key additions in the Smite 2 open beta include:

  • New Gods: Aladdin, Geb (Egyptian God of Earth), Mulan (Chinese Ascendant Warrior), Agni (Hindu Pantheon), and Ullr (Norse Pantheon).
  • Return of Joust: The beloved 3v3 mode makes a comeback.
  • New Map: An Arthurian-themed map joins the roster.
  • Conquest & Assault Updates: The Conquest map receives updates, and an alpha version of the Assault mode is included.
  • God Aspects: Optional enhancements for select gods.

Titan Forge Games' creative director has stated that Smite 2 surpasses its predecessor in numerous aspects. The team expressed gratitude for player feedback gathered during the closed alpha and promised ambitious new content for 2025.

While the open beta is available on major platforms, Nintendo Switch users will have to wait. The developer previously cited concerns about performance on the current Switch hardware, but remains open to a potential release on the Nintendo Switch 2. For now, players on other platforms can dive into the free-to-play open beta and experience the evolution of Smite.
