On April 9, Sega took to Twitter (X) to declare that Sonic Rumble will hit the global market on May 8, 2025. Accompanying this exciting news was the unveiling of a fresh trailer, offering fans a sneak peek at the game's dynamic gameplay.

Sonic Rumble marks a groundbreaking entry into the series as the first multiplayer party game, allowing up to 32 players to compete in various levels and gameplay modes. Sega describes the game as an adventure where "Players control a character from the Sonic series as they navigate a toy world created by the villainous Dr. Eggman, tackling treacherous obstacle courses and dangerous arenas!"

Given its free-to-play model, concerns about potential pay-to-win mechanics have surfaced. However, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase addressed these worries during an interview with Automaton at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 in September 2024. He clarified, "We’re aiming for a casual system that allows you to just buy what you want quickly for a small, fixed amount, rather than a gacha system that gives you a certain probability of obtaining items."

Just hours after the release date announcement, Sega shared that Sonic Rumble has surpassed 900,000 pre-registrations. This achievement unlocks a series of in-game rewards designed to give players a head start in their gaming experience.
