Squad Busters 2.0 Hits Android Just Before First Anniversary!

Squad Busters is celebrating its first birthday with a monumental update—version 2.0—set to launch on May 13th. This marks the game’s most significant overhaul since its debut in 2024, signaling Supercell’s commitment to reinvigorating player engagement and refining the gameplay experience.

Far from a minor patch or balance tweak, Squad Busters 2.0 functions more like a soft reboot. Nearly every core mechanic—from battle dynamics to victory conditions—has been reimagined to create a faster, more strategic style of play.

A Hero-Centric Battle Experience

One of the most notable changes is the introduction of Heroes as central figures in each match. Players now select a Hero to lead their squad, and if that Hero is eliminated, the match is lost. This adds a layer of tension and strategy previously absent, encouraging smarter positioning and risk assessment.

Dynamic Movement and Combat

Another major shift comes in how players engage in combat. No longer must you stop moving to attack—movement and combat are now seamlessly integrated. This change makes battles more fluid, aggressive, and unpredictable, enhancing the intensity of every encounter.

New Victory Conditions

Victory no longer hinges on eliminating all opposing players. Instead, matches are won by defeating the enemy's Hero. While this may draw comparisons to other Supercell titles like Brawl Stars, it streamlines objectives and focuses the action where it matters most.

Cutting the Fat: Removal of Underused Features

To make room for fresh mechanics and streamlined progression, several older modes—including Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder—are being removed entirely. Some legacy skins and outdated progression systems are also being phased out.

In return, Supercell will compensate affected players with Hero Points and other in-game items to ease the transition into the new system.

The timing of this overhaul isn’t coincidental. With the game’s first anniversary just around the corner on May 29th, Supercell aims to reignite interest and attract both lapsed and new players. In celebration, daily piñata events will roll out, offering chances to unlock the new Hero, Mortis.
