Ubisoft quietly launches a new NFT game: Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E.
Ubisoft's foray into the NFT gaming world continues with the under-the-radar release of Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., a top-down multiplayer arcade shooter. As reported by Eurogamer on December 20th, access to this game is gated behind a cryptocurrency purchase.
Expanding on the Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix Netflix series, the game incorporates familiar Ubisoft franchises like Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed into its universe. Limited to 10,000 players, participation requires purchasing a Citizen ID Card NFT for $25.63 via Ubisoft's Magic Eden page. This card tracks in-game achievements and evolves based on player performance. Citizens can also choose to sell their IDs, potentially increasing their value depending on in-game success.
The game's full launch is slated for Q1 2025, with early access granted to those who secured their ID cards early.
A Netflix Series Inspired by Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon DLC
The Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix Netflix series serves as inspiration, drawing from the Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon expansion. Set in an alternate 1992 where the US is a megacorporation-controlled technocracy called Eden, the show follows Dolph Laserhawk, a supersoldier, after his defection and subsequent capture. The game shares this setting, placing players as Eden citizens who can influence the narrative through mission completion, leaderboard rankings, and community engagement.
