The Battle of Polytopia has introduced an exciting new feature with the launch of Weekly Challenges, adding a fresh competitive twist to this popular 4X strategy game. This update offers players a structured way to showcase their strategic prowess on a weekly basis. Let's delve into what this means for players and how it changes the gameplay dynamic.
It Was Random Before
Previously, randomness was a significant element in The Battle of Polytopia, with diverse enemies, resources, and maps ensuring that no two games were ever quite the same. This unpredictability was part of the game's charm, but the new free update introduces a more organized competition format.
With the Weekly Challenges, every player faces the same map, tribe, and gameplay conditions each week. The challenge is to achieve the highest score possible within a strict limit of 20 turns. Players can attempt this challenge once per day, allowing for a maximum of seven tries per week.
One of the exciting aspects of this new feature is that it allows players to experiment with tribes they might not yet own. The game offers a total of 16 tribes—four come with the base game, and the other twelve are available for purchase ranging from $1 to $4 each. However, during Weekly Challenges, everyone gets to compete using the same tribe, regardless of whether they own it or not.
Will Weekly Challenges Make The Battle of Polytopia More Exciting?
Absolutely, the introduction of Weekly Challenges has the potential to invigorate the gameplay experience. Moreover, this update also brings a new League system into play. All players start in the Entry League, and their performance each week determines whether they move up, stay the same, or drop down a league. The top third of players advance, the bottom third are relegated, and the middle third remain in their current league.
The difficulty level also scales with your league progression. Starting with Easy AI in the Entry League, players will face increasingly challenging bots, up to Crazy difficulty in the Gold League. And don’t worry about missing a week; while you won’t be demoted for skipping, your ranking will adjust based on other players' performances.
