The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 versions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will receive several enhancements, including a potential equipment repair system.
As highlighted by YouTuber Zeltik during Nintendo's recent Treehouse Live stream, the Zelda Notes mobile companion app—exclusive to these Switch 2 editions—features a Daily Bonus mechanic. Players can spin for various in-game rewards such as meal boosts, health/stamina recovery, and notably, Equipment Repairs.
Both Zelda titles incorporate controversial durability mechanics where weapons and shields eventually break. This new repair option could alleviate frustration for players wanting to preserve cherished gear like the Flameblade.
However, the system isn't without restrictions. The Daily Bonus operates via randomized roulette spins, meaning Equipment Repairs aren't guaranteed each day. Players must also wait 24 hours between attempts, making repairs more of an occasional convenience than a fundamental gameplay overhaul.
Beyond repairs, the Zelda Notes app introduces multiple upgrades including achievement tracking and audio lore expansions that deepen Hyrule's backstory. These additions complement the Switch 2's technical improvements, particularly for players frustrated by weapon durability.
While not eliminating the challenge entirely, these quality-of-life enhancements promise to refine the open-world experience. For details on other Switch 1 game upgrades coming to Switch 2, check our related coverage.
