Switch Access

Operate your device using switches or the front-facing camera.

Manage your phone or tablet with switches or the front camera. Use switches to choose items, scroll, enter text, and perform other actions.

Switch Access enables you to interact with your Android device using one or more switches as an alternative to the touchscreen. This feature is ideal if direct touch interaction isn't possible for you.

To begin:

1. Open the Settings app on your device.

2. Navigate to Accessibility > Switch Access.

Configure a switch

Switch Access scans screen items, highlighting each one sequentially until you make a selection. Several switch types are available:

Physical switches

• USB or Bluetooth switches, such as buttons or keyboards

• On-device switches, like volume keys

Camera switches

• Open your mouth, smile, or raise your eyebrows

• Look left, right, or upward

Scan your device

Once a switch is set up, you can scan and interact with on-screen elements.

• Linear scanning: Move through items one by one.

• Row-column scanning: Scan entire rows first, then navigate through items within a selected row.

• Point scanning: Use moving lines to pinpoint a specific horizontal and vertical position, then press "Select".

• Group selection: Assign switches to different color groups. All screen items receive a color assignment. Press the switch matching the color surrounding your desired item. Continue narrowing the group until you reach your target.

Utilize the menus

When an element is selected, a menu appears showing available actions like select, scroll, copy, paste, and others.

A persistent menu at the top of the screen helps you navigate your device. You can access notifications, return to the home screen, adjust volume, and perform additional functions.

Navigation with Camera Switches

Use Camera Switches to control your phone through facial gestures. Browse or select applications using your device's front camera.

You can also adjust the sensitivity and duration of each gesture to match your preferences.

Record shortcuts

Record touch gestures that can be assigned to switches or activated from menus. These gestures may include pinching, zooming, scrolling, swiping, double tapping, and more. Execute frequent or complex actions with a single switch—for instance, record a gesture that swipes left twice to turn two pages in an ebook.
