Sony Has Good News and Bad News on PlayStation 5 Themes

Author : Emily Update:Feb 28,2025

Sony's popular PlayStation console themes for PS5 are disappearing! The limited-time PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 themes are leaving the PlayStation Store on January 31st, 2025. However, there's a silver lining: Sony plans to bring them back at a later date.

In a recent announcement, Sony expressed gratitude for the overwhelmingly positive response to the themes, stating they are working to reintroduce these designs in the coming months.

"Thank you for the fantastic response...we’re doing some work behind the scenes to bring these special designs back in the months ahead."

Unfortunately, the news isn't entirely positive. Sony also confirmed that there are currently no plans to release additional themes beyond these four retro offerings. This means no new console-themed designs are expected for the PS5's current generation.

This announcement has met with some fan disappointment, as themes were a cherished feature on previous PlayStation consoles. The currently available themes offer a nostalgic trip down memory lane, transforming the PS5 home screen and menus to reflect the aesthetic and sounds of the PSOne, PS2, PS3, and PS4. Each theme incorporates unique visual elements and audio cues from its respective console generation.

While the temporary removal is a setback, the promise of their return offers a glimmer of hope for PS5 users eager to relive the past.
