Summary

  • Windows 11 update caused issues with two Assassin's Creed games.
  • Fixes issued for AC Origins & Valhalla, but Odyssey may still have problems.

Assassin's Creed enthusiasts who encountered problems launching their games after a recent Windows update can now breathe a sigh of relief. Ubisoft has released patches to resolve the issues affecting Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, ensuring smoother gameplay. However, some Ubisoft titles, including Assassin's Creed Odyssey, might still face challenges.

Windows updates, such as the 24H2 release for Windows 11, often bring enhancements like Wi-Fi 7 support, improved energy-saving modes, and AI-driven features like Copilot+ PC. Yet, following the rollout of this update, several gamers reported that certain games, including those from the Assassin's Creed series, either wouldn't start or exhibited erratic behavior. The newly released fixes aim to correct these issues for two of Ubisoft's popular titles.

Ubisoft has confirmed that both Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla have been updated to address the problems triggered by the Windows 11 24H2 update. These updates should be automatically downloaded via Steam, allowing the games to function properly once installed. Players should ensure they have sufficient storage space; the patch for Origins requires 230 MB, while Valhalla's update needs 500 MB.

Windows Update 24H2 Is Still Plaguing Some Ubisoft Games

The exact cause within the Windows 24H2 update that disrupted Ubisoft games remains unclear. While the community appreciates the fixes for Origins and Valhalla, there's growing concern over other titles still awaiting patches. Notably, Assassin's Creed Odyssey continues to experience issues, ranging from unresponsiveness to complete failure to launch. Although Ubisoft has addressed significant problems with other games like Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, some performance hiccups persist. Fans of Assassin's Creed Odyssey might want to delay updating to Windows 11 until a specific fix is available.

It's regrettable that these issues arose initially, especially since players had reported problems during the 24H2 update preview five months earlier. Despite these early warnings, the issues weren't resolved before the official rollout. This is particularly concerning as Microsoft has been encouraging Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11 promptly. Fortunately, most other games have not been significantly affected by this update.
