*Avowed* expands upon the rich Fantasy universe of Eora, previously explored in the *Pillars of Eternity* series of isometric RPGs. While the game features a variety of races among the Kith, your choices during character creation are somewhat limited. Here's a comprehensive guide to the playable races in *Avowed*.
Humans (Known In-Universe as Folk)
Humans, referred to as Folk within the world of *Avowed*, are the most prevalent race in the game and are prominently featured in the character creator. As part of the broader category of Kith, Humans represent a significant portion of the sentient and civilized species in *Avowed*. The character customization for Humans is extensive, designed to cater to a wide audience. Players can choose from numerous presets and utilize detailed customization tools, including a variety of facial presets, a skin tone slider, and diverse hair textures. This array of options allows most players to create a character that closely represents them.
Elves
Elves are another selectable race in *Avowed*. Visually, Elves are very similar to Humans, with the main differences being their slightly distinct facial structures and, of course, their iconic long, pointed ears. This subtle variation provides a unique aesthetic while maintaining a close resemblance to the Human race.
Godlikes
A third race option available in *Avowed* is the Godlikes. Although all Envoys in the game's narrative are Godlike, players have the choice to display or conceal Godlike features. Godlikes come with unique hair and facial features, ranging from subtle to surreal. At the launch of *Avowed*, players can choose from 14 different Godlike facial features and four distinct Godlike hair options. These choices are available for all characters, irrespective of their race or body type.
What Gender Options are Available in the Avowed Character Creator?
In *Avowed*, players can select from four Body Types: two masculine and two feminine, applicable to both Humans and Elves. Additionally, there are two voice options for each gender. Players can also choose their character's identifier, which determines the pronouns used for them - he, she, or they.
Several Races Present in Avowed Are Not Playable
While *Avowed* features a diverse cast of NPCs representing various Kith races, not all are available for player customization. Races such as Dwarves, semiaquatic Aumaua, and the diminutive, hairy Orlans appear in the game's world, the Living Lands, but are not options in the character creator. However, there remains the potential for Obsidian Entertainment to introduce additional race options through future updates or DLCs.
