Bandai Namco has announced the closure of Blue Protocol's Japanese servers and the cancellation of its global release, planned in partnership with Amazon Games. This decision follows declining player numbers and the company's inability to meet player expectations.
Blue Protocol: Global Release Canceled, Japanese Servers Shutting Down
Player Compensation and Final Updates
Bandai Namco will cease Blue Protocol service in Japan on January 18, 2025. Consequently, the international launch, a collaboration with Amazon Games, is also canceled. The company cited its inability to deliver a consistently satisfactory service as the primary reason for this decision.
In an official statement, Bandai Namco expressed regret, acknowledging their failure to meet player expectations. They also stated their disappointment at the termination of the global release project.
Until the game's closure, Bandai Namco pledges continued support with updates and new content. Rose Orb purchases and refunds will be discontinued, but players will receive 5,000 Rose Orbs monthly (starting September 2024) plus 250 daily. The Season 9 pass (and subsequent passes) will be free, and Chapter 7, the final update, is slated for December 18, 2024.
Launched in Japan in June 2023, Blue Protocol initially attracted over 200,000 concurrent players. However, significant server issues at launch and subsequent player dissatisfaction led to a sharp decline in player numbers.
Despite a promising start, the game ultimately failed to meet Bandai Namco's financial projections. This underperformance, previously indicated in their fiscal year 2024 report (ending March 31, 2024), directly contributed to the decision to end service.
