After a remarkable 25-year hiatus, Capcom's cherished role-playing game, Breath of Fire IV, has made a triumphant return to PC. Initially launched on the PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, followed by a European release in 2001, the game saw a PC port in Europe and Japan in 2003. The narrative follows Ryu, a protagonist distinct from Capcom's other famous Ryu, who possesses the unique ability to transform into a dragon. Alongside a band of warriors, Ryu embarks on a quest to thwart an emperor's malevolent plan to destroy the world.
Thanks to GOG's ongoing Preservation Program, Breath of Fire IV has been meticulously updated for contemporary PCs and is now available DRM-free on their platform. The enhanced version is optimized for modern systems, ensuring compatibility with Windows 10 and 11. It features both English and Japanese localizations, enhanced graphics through an upgraded DirectX renderer, and new display options including Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and refined gamma correction for superior visuals. The audio engine has also been revamped, restoring missing environmental sounds and introducing new configuration options for an enriched gaming experience.
