Summary

  • The upcoming multiplayer Witcher game may allow players to create their own Witchers.
  • New job postings suggest The Witcher's multiplayer game will feature character creation.
  • Players should temper their excitement until CD Projekt reveals more about the game.

The upcoming multiplayer game in The Witcher series, known as Project Sirius, may allow players to create their own Witchers. This possibility is hinted at by a recent job posting from The Molasses Flood, a CD Projekt-owned studio in Boston. While character creation is a common feature in many multiplayer games, this development suggests that The Witcher's multiplayer experience will also include this element.

Announced in late 2022, Project Sirius was initially described as a spin-off of The Witcher with multiplayer components. The Molasses Flood, known for their work on survival crafting games like The Flame in the Flood and Drake Hollow, is leading the development of this project.

Recent reports indicate that Project Sirius will be a live-service game, which could mean players might choose from a set roster of characters or create their own within the dark fantasy universe of The Witcher. A job posting for a lead 3D character artist at The Molasses Flood mentions working under the Project Sirius art director to ensure characters align with the project's artistic vision and gameplay needs, suggesting a focus on character creation.

Project Sirius Could Let Players Make New Witchers

While the prospect of creating personalized Witchers is exciting, fans should manage their expectations until CD Projekt provides more details. The job posting's call for "world-class characters" could refer to a character creation tool, but it might also mean developing other characters like selectable heroes or NPCs.

If Project Sirius does indeed allow for player-created Witchers, it could be timely for CD Projekt. Following the reveal of the first major trailer for The Witcher 4 at The Game Awards, where it was confirmed that Ciri will take over as the main character for the next three mainline games instead of Geralt, some fans have expressed dissatisfaction. Offering the ability to create their own Witchers could help mitigate this discontent among certain parts of the fanbase.
