Attack the Tentacles
Nu Udra presents a challenging battle in Monster Hunter Wilds, primarily due to its extensive reach with massive tentacles, making dodging a complex task. However, these tentacles are prime targets for melee weapon users, being the closest limbs within reach. Severing them not only yields additional materials but also diminishes its attack capabilities, though caution is advised as these limbs serve as powerful weapons.
Aim for the Mouth
For those wielding ranged weapons, targeting the mouth is highly recommended despite its elusive nature due to Nu Udra's nearly pitch-black skin. The mouth boasts a 4-star weakness, making it the optimal strike point. Alternatively, the head, while only having a 3-star weakness to ammo damage, remains a solid target for blunt and cut damage.
Use Watermoss
Given Nu Udra's affinity for fire, utilizing Watermoss is crucial. This monster not only attacks with its limbs but also employs fire-based assaults, even igniting itself at times to inflict Fireblight. Applying Watermoss allows for safer engagements by mitigating this dangerous status ailment.
Wear Fire Resistant Gear
To enhance your chances in this fiery confrontation, equipping fire-resistant gear is vital. The Quematrice armor set, with its Fire Resistance skill, is an excellent choice. Additionally, incorporating decorations such as the Fire Res Jewel to reduce fire damage and the Stream Jewel to boost your water attack can significantly improve your performance.
Beware of Grab Attacks
Nu Udra's arsenal includes a particularly perilous grab attack. If you find yourself too close, the monster might ensnare you with its tentacles, followed by a devastating stream of fire. During the brief pause before the fire attack, swiftly use a knife to break free or target its weak spots with a Slinger to avoid this dangerous move.

Capturing Nu Udra requires preparation with either a Pitfall or Shock Trap. However, you must first weaken the monster until it's on the brink of death, indicated by a skull icon next to the boss icon. Once it's sufficiently weakened, set the trap and lure Nu Udra into it. Using meat as bait can be effective, but simply positioning yourself behind the trap while being targeted works too. Once the monster is trapped, quickly administer a Tranquilizer to put it to sleep; you have a mere five seconds before it breaks free.
This guide covers all you need to know about defeating and capturing Nu Udra in Monster Hunter Wilds. Given the challenge of facing this monster alone, consider leveraging multiplayer options to secure victory.
