Disney Lorcana enthusiasts, prepare for an exciting future! The trading card game has just announced a plethora of new developments, including the highly anticipated ninth set, Fabled, set to release on September 5, 2025. This set will introduce the first-ever Iconic and Epic cards, along with the much-awaited inclusion of cards from A Goofy Movie. Additionally, the eighth set, Reign of Jafar, is slated for a June 6 release, and a new Collection Starter Set was unveiled. The Disney Lorcana World Championship details were also shared, and there's a thrilling tease about Darkwing Duck's future inclusion. Let's dive into all these updates so you stay in the loop!
Fabled Will Add Iconic and Epic Cards, A Goofy Movie, and Rotating Cards for Competitive Play
The excitement for Fabled is building, with the set's pre-release scheduled for August 29 and the official release on September 5, 2025. A major highlight is the inclusion of A Goofy Movie-themed cards, though specifics remain under wraps. The set will also introduce the rarest cards yet: Iconic Cards. Only two will be featured per set, with the inaugural pair showcasing Mickey and Minnie on a carousel. Alongside these, Epic Cards will debut, offering stunning artwork and foil treatments, such as a new Elsa (Snow Queen) card. These will be rarer than Legendary but more accessible than Enchanted and Iconic Cards.
Fabled marks a pivotal change with the introduction of card rotation, affecting competitive play. Cards from the first four sets will no longer be legal in Core Constructed play, encouraging fresh strategies. However, fans of older cards can still enjoy them in the new Infinity Constructed format. Fabled will also feature reprints from earlier sets, like Winnie the Pooh (Hunny Wizard), ensuring these cards remain viable in competitive play.

Ryan Miller, Brand Manager and Co-Designer of Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger, emphasized the importance of card rotation for competitive health: “To keep the competitive game thriving, rotating out older cards to encourage new strategies and fresh deck designs is a really important part of the next chapter. But because we know there are cards in those early sets that are important to a lot of fans’ deck-building strategies, and we know not everybody got the cards they wanted the first year, we’re re-printing some cards from those first sets in Fabled. Including Enchanted versions of some fan favorites!”
New players can jump into Lorcana with the Collection Starter Set, which includes four Fabled booster packs, a Tinker Bell (Giant Fairy) "Glimmer Foil" Promo Card, a card portfolio featuring Mickey Mouse (Brave Little Tailor), and a collector's guide.
Reign of Jafar Offers Aladdin and Bambi Cards Alongside a New Co-Op Adventure
Reign of Jafar, the eighth set, is set for a pre-release on May 30 and a wide release on June 6. This set continues the narrative involving Disney villain Jafar, who has taken control of Archazia's Island using the Hexwell Crown. Players will encounter traps and illusions as they help characters like Jasmine – Steady Strategist and Rapunzel – High Climber to reclaim the crown and defeat Jafar.

Alongside the set, fans can dive into Illumineers' Quest: Palace Heist, a new co-op experience where four players team up to thwart Jafar and his minions. The set introduces cards like Bambi (Prince of the Forest), Flower (Shy Skunk), Thumper (Young Bunny), Jafar (High Sultan of Lorcana), Magic Carpet (Phantom Rug), and Aladdin (Vigilant Guard), among others.
Teases of the Future Include Whispers in the Well and Darkwing Duck
Looking ahead, the set following Fabled, titled Whispers in the Well, is slated for release in Q4 2025. Though details are scarce, key art hints at the inclusion of Mickey, Ariel, and possibly Disney Gargoyles, along with a new type of Glimmer. Further into the future, fans can look forward to the addition of Darkwing Duck to the game in 2026, answering long-standing requests.
