Dragon Age: The Veilguard Director Reportedly Exits BioWare

Author : Jason Update:Mar 05,2025

Corinne Busche, the director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly departing from BioWare, an EA-owned studio. Eurogamer reported that Busche, who served as game director from February 2022 until the game's launch last year, will be leaving in the coming weeks. EA has been contacted by IGN for comment.

Questions regarding the commercial success of Dragon Age: The Veilguard have persisted since its October release. While Eurogamer indicates Busche's departure is independent of other studio changes, the game's performance remains unclear. EA's Q3 2025 financial results, scheduled for February 4th, may shed light on whether sales met expectations.

Busche joined BioWare in 2019 after working at Maxis on various Sims projects. Her contribution to The Veilguard's completion during its final development stages was significant, as detailed in IGN's article, "How BioWare Finally Got Dragon Age to the Finish Line After a Tumultuous Decade," which highlighted the game's challenging development history, including a major overhaul from a planned multiplayer title to a single-player RPG.

Eurogamer asserts that Busche's exit is unrelated to The Veilguard's sales. BioWare has confirmed that no DLC is planned for The Veilguard, with the studio now focusing on Mass Effect 5.

The news follows BioWare's August 2023 layoffs, affecting approximately 50 employees, including veteran narrative designer Mary Kirby. These layoffs coincided with internal restructuring at EA and rumors of potential BioWare acquisition. The decision to transition Star Wars: The Old Republic to a third-party publisher was purportedly to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The reveal of Dragon Age: The Veilguard (initially titled Dreadwolf) in 2024 faced initial negative fan reaction, prompting a quick release of gameplay footage to address concerns. Despite this rocky start, subsequent impressions were generally positive.

The future of the Dragon Age franchise remains uncertain. Whether BioWare will receive the opportunity to develop a sequel to The Veilguard is a question currently unanswered.
