Dragon Quest III Remaster Tips for Optimal Gameplay

Author : Andrew Update:Jan 11,2025

For fans of classic JRPGs, Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake is a fantastic trip down memory lane, showcasing the series' enduring charm. However, its old-school difficulty demands strategic preparation. Here's how to conquer Baramos:

Master the Personality Test

The initial personality quiz, administered by "She Who Watches Over All," dictates your hero's stat growth. This significantly impacts gameplay. While you can alter personality later with specific accessories, restarting for your ideal stats is simpler. The optimal choice is "Vamp," exclusive to female heroes.

Customize Your Party

In Aliahan, bypass Patty's pre-set party. On the second floor, you can create a custom team with classes Patty omits, assign stats, and even influence personalities for superior performance. Crucially, always include a Priest for essential healing.

Acquire Essential Weapons

Early-game equipment is costly, so securing powerful weapons is vital. The Boomerang (Dreamer's Tower, 3rd floor chest) and Thorn Whip (Aliahan well, requires two Mini Medals from Morgan Minimann) are invaluable. Their multi-enemy attack capabilities make them perfect for your Hero and a strength-based character (Warrior or Martial Artist). Four Mini Medals are readily available in the opening hours.

Enable "Follow Orders"

While often standard, Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake initially restricts party control to AI. Access the Tactics menu during combat and switch to "Follow Orders" for direct party management.

Stock Up on Chimaera Wings

Early enemies inflict substantial damage. Fast travel is unavailable until the Zoom spell (typically unlocked around Hero level 8). Until then, Chimaera Wings (25 gold each) allow quick returns to previously visited locations, even within dungeons, proving invaluable for protecting weakened party members.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
