"Dune: Awakening Delay: Three Weeks for Beta-Driven Changes"

Author : Peyton Update:May 23,2025

Dune: Awakening, the highly anticipated open-world survival MMO inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novels and Denis Villeneuve's films, has been rescheduled for release on June 10, 2025. Developer Funcom announced this delay, emphasizing their commitment to delivering a polished game experience. Those eager to dive into the sands of Arrakis early can do so on June 5 by purchasing the Deluxe Edition or Ultimate Edition of the game.

Funcom's decision to postpone the launch stems from valuable feedback obtained during their ongoing Persistent Closed Beta. This extra time will allow the development team to refine the game further, incorporating suggested changes and ensuring a richer experience for all players. Additionally, the delay paves the way for a large-scale beta weekend next month, offering even more players the chance to test the game and provide their input.

Although the delay might be disappointing for some eager fans, Funcom is keeping the excitement alive with a combat livestream scheduled for today at 12pm ET/9am PT. This event will delve deeper into the game's PvP and PvE mechanics, along with detailed insights into archetypes and skills.

At IGN, we've had the privilege of a hands-on preview with Dune: Awakening. Our experience left us convinced that despite initial skepticism about an MMO survival game set in the Dune universe, the game's immersive environment and engaging mechanics make it a title to keep an eye on. As we noted, "It's easy to be skeptical about an MMO survival game set in the Dune universe, but after a few bouts of dehydration and sunstroke, the day I spent in Arrakis convinced me that Dune: Awakening is one to watch."

For more information, be sure to explore the details on the MMO's business model, post-launch plans, and the in-depth gameplay trailer showcased at Gamescom ONL last year. Stay tuned for further updates on this exciting journey into the world of Dune.
