"Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake Set for Imminent Reveal and Release"

Author : Zoey Update:May 23,2025

Exciting news for fans of *The Elder Scrolls* series: Bethesda is reportedly on the brink of announcing a remake of *The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion*. According to the reliable source NatetheHate, who previously nailed the announcement date for the Nintendo Switch 2, the reveal could happen as soon as this month or next. This information has been backed by VGC, adding credibility to the imminent announcement. As for the release, there's some uncertainty. NatetheHate suggests a release before June, while VGC hints at a potential launch as early as April.

Earlier this year, *Mp1st* reported on leaked details from a former employee at Virtuos, a video game support studio, which accidentally revealed information about the Oblivion remake. Microsoft remained tight-lipped when approached by IGN for a comment. According to *Mp1st*, Virtuos has utilized Unreal Engine 5 to completely overhaul Bethesda's beloved open-world RPG, suggesting a comprehensive remake rather than a simple remaster. The gameplay is said to have undergone significant changes, including modifications to Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reaction, and the heads-up display (HUD).

The changes to the gameplay mechanics are designed to enhance player engagement. For instance, the Blocking system has been revamped with inspiration from action games and Soulslikes, addressing the original's perceived "boring" and "frustrating" mechanics. Sneak icons are now highlighted, and the damage calculation system has been updated. The knockdown effect from depleting Stamina is reportedly harder to trigger, while the HUD has been redesigned for better clarity. Additionally, hit reactions have been improved for a more responsive gameplay experience, and Archery has been modernized for both first and third-person views.

Rumors of an Oblivion remaster first surfaced in 2023 when documents from the FTC versus Microsoft trial over the Activision Blizzard buyout were made public. These documents, compiled in July 2020 before Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media in March 2021, listed several unannounced Bethesda games slated for future release. The list included an *Oblivion Remaster* for the financial year 2022, alongside other titles like an Indiana Jones game, *Doom Year Zero* and its DLC, *Project Kestrel*, *Project Platinum*, *The Elder Scrolls 6*, *Project Kestrel: Expansion*, a *Licensed IP Game*, *Fallout 3 Remaster*, a *Ghostwire: Tokyo Sequel*, *Dishonored 3*, and more *DOOM Year Zero DLC*. Many of these projects have faced delays or cancellations, with *Doom Year Zero* rebranded as *Doom: The Dark Ages* and set to launch in May, while *Indiana Jones and the Great Circle* was released in December 2024, and *The Elder Scrolls 6* nowhere near its projected financial year 2024 release.

The document from Microsoft referred to the project as a *remaster*, yet it appears the scope may have expanded to a full-fledged *remake*. We'll get the final word once Bethesda officially unveils this highly anticipated project.

As for the platforms, with Microsoft embracing multiplatform releases and the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon, *The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion* remake might not be limited to just PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. If the Switch 2 launches around June, there's a chance the Oblivion remake could be part of its launch lineup, opening its gates to an even broader audience.
