Genki, renowned for its gaming accessories, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing key design features and sparking further discussion. The model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, accurately reflects the console's dimensions, showcasing a larger form factor approaching the size of the Steam Deck.
Key features observed include seemingly magnetic Joy-Cons, a second USB-C port, and an intriguing new "C" button. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge, explaining a novel detachment mechanism involving pins released by buttons on each Joy-Con. Despite the magnetic connection, Tsai assures users of secure Joy-Con attachment during gameplay.
Enhanced Joy-Con Functionality and Design
Further details emerged regarding the Joy-Cons' "mounting channels," which incorporate optical sensors. This suggests potential new functionality, possibly mouse-like capabilities via a magnetically attached accessory, seemingly corroborated by recently leaked Switch 2 images.
Compatibility and Dimensions
Interestingly, while the Switch 2's increased size allows it to physically fit within the existing Switch dock, design modifications prevent compatibility. The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the mysterious "C" button remain undisclosed.
