Epic Freebie: January 16's Mystery Game Revealed

Escape Academy: Epic Games Store's Top-Rated Freebie for January 16th

Escape Academy, a critically acclaimed escape-room style puzzle game, is the Epic Games Store's free game offering for January 16th, 2025. This marks the fourth free title offered by the EGS in 2025, and based on its OpenCritic score of 80 (with an 88% recommendation rate), it's the highest-rated free game offered so far this year.

Players will have a full week, until January 23rd, to claim their free copy. Developed by Coin Crew Games, Escape Academy challenges players to hone their escape room skills as students at the titular academy, training to become "escape room masters." The game, initially released in July 2022 for PC and consoles, offers both single-player and highly-regarded online/split-screen multiplayer modes, making it a top choice for cooperative puzzle enthusiasts. Steam reviews are "Very Positive," while PlayStation and Xbox store ratings average 4.42 and 4.2 stars respectively.

While previously offered as a free mystery game on the EGS on January 1st, 2024, this giveaway marks the first time Escape Academy will be available for a full week. This is particularly timely for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, as the game is slated to leave the service on January 15th after an 18-month run.

Epic Games Store's January 2025 Free Games:

  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance (January 1st)
  • Hell Let Loose (January 2nd-9th)
  • Turmoil (January 9th-16th)
  • Escape Academy (January 16th-23rd)

Following the Escape Academy giveaway, the EGS is expected to announce its fifth free game of the year on January 16th. For those who enjoy Escape Academy, two DLC packs, "Escape From Anti-Escape Island" and "Escape From the Past," are available for purchase individually at $9.99 or as a Season Pass for $14.99.
