If you're a fan of the classic strategy game *ROME: Total War* on Android, you'll be thrilled to know that Feral Interactive has just released a significant free update—the Imperium Update. This update introduces a wealth of gameplay tweaks, control improvements, and quality-of-life features that enhance your gaming experience. Originally launched on Android in 2018, this game now boasts even more reasons to dive back in. And don’t worry if you're a fan of the standalone expansions *Barbarian Invasion* and *Alexander*—they'll be receiving the same update next week.
What Does the Imperium Update Bring to ROME: Total War?
The Imperium Update brings some of the most beloved features from Feral’s newer mobile titles, such as *Total War: MEDIEVAL II* and *EMPIRE*. You'll now have access to three new control options: Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection. These modes offer better unit command and precision in battles. With the new controls, you can easily move your army, agents, or fleets by simply tapping and holding, eliminating the need to drag paths manually.
Positioning Mode allows for more precise unit placements with a tap-and-hold action. The Group Grid feature simplifies managing unit groups with an intuitive, collapsible selection menu. Meanwhile, Melee Mode enables your ranged units to switch to close combat when the situation demands it.
One of the most significant enhancements is the Command Slowdown feature, which automatically slows the game down when you're issuing complex orders, making it easier to manage your strategy. Additionally, for the first time, keyboard and mouse support has been added for Android (and iPad) users, providing a more familiar control scheme for those who prefer it.
The minimap in *ROME: Total War* has been revamped to resemble the one in *MEDIEVAL II*, with smoother zooming and navigation capabilities. A new reset button allows you to quickly return to the default view, enhancing your overall gameplay experience.
The Imperium Update is already live and available for download via the Google Play Store for *ROME: Total War* on Android. Make sure to install it and enjoy the new features. Keep an eye out for the updates coming to *Barbarian Invasion* and *Alexander* next week, and don't miss out on the enhanced gameplay they'll offer.
