At Droid Gamers, we often receive a variety of gadgets to review, but a projector was a new addition to our lineup. Given its potential to enhance mobile gaming by projecting games onto a larger screen, the Formovie Episode One seemed like an ideal piece of technology to explore.
Designed to appeal to budget-conscious consumers—since projectors can often be quite pricey—the Episode One successfully meets this goal and even exceeds expectations in several areas, though not without some minor drawbacks.
Upon unboxing, you'll find the projector, a remote (without batteries), a power cable, and a manual. While it feels substantial, it doesn't quite have the robust build of higher-end models. However, this lighter weight—coming in at just three pounds—enhances its portability, making it easy to carry around.
The connectivity options might be a bit limited for some users, featuring only a single USB-A port, one HDMI port, and an audio jack. Given the projector's price point, this setup should suffice for most users' needs.
In terms of performance, the Episode One holds its own for its cost. With 150 ISO lumens, it isn't the brightest or most powerful laser-based projector on the market. It struggled in direct sunlight during our tests but performed admirably in darker settings, as expected.
Every film, TV show, and game we streamed through it was displayed with clarity. For the best image quality, we found it necessary to position the projector at least 10 feet away from the screen. The sound output from the built-in speaker was acceptable but somewhat tinny, suggesting that an external speaker would enhance the audio experience significantly.
The user interface of the Episode One is one of the best in its class. Its simplicity and ease of use stand out, making it more user-friendly than some of the pricier projectors we've tested.
All things considered, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent entry-level projector. It may not excel in any single aspect, but it's a dependable all-rounder that will meet the needs of most casual users effectively.
