F-Zero Climax, a Japan-Exclusive GBA Racing Game, Added to Switch Online + Expansion Pack

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack adds two classic F-Zero GBA racers!

Get ready to experience high-speed futuristic racing! Nintendo has announced that F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend are joining the Switch Online + Expansion Pack lineup on October 11, 2024.

This exciting addition brings two iconic Game Boy Advance titles to the modern console. F-Zero: GP Legend, a worldwide release from 2004, joins the previously Japan-exclusive F-Zero Climax, making its long-awaited debut internationally.

The F-Zero series, a cornerstone of Nintendo's racing legacy since its 1990 debut, is renowned for its groundbreaking speed and intense gameplay. Its influence on the racing genre is undeniable, inspiring titles like SEGA's Daytona USA. Known for pushing the technological boundaries of its time, F-Zero on SNES and beyond set the standard for fast-paced racing on retro consoles.

Like its popular cousin Mario Kart, F-Zero features thrilling races filled with challenging tracks and intense rivalries. Players pilot powerful "F-Zero machines," battling for the finish line. The series' iconic protagonist, Captain Falcon, even makes appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series.

F-Zero: GP Legend launched in 2003 in Japan and 2004 globally, while F-Zero Climax remained a Japan-only release until now. Its arrival marks the end of a 19-year wait for international fans, a period following the last dedicated F-Zero game before last year's F-Zero 99 on Switch. According to F-Zero designer Takaya Imamura, the immense success of Mario Kart played a role in the series' extended hiatus.

With the October 2024 update to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack, subscribers can now enjoy both F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend. Prepare for intense competition across various race modes, including Grand Prix, story modes, and time trials.
