Fallout 76 Season 20: Unleash the Ghoul Within
Fallout 76 Season 20, titled "The Ghoul Within," has arrived, bringing a thrilling new feature to the radiation-infested wasteland of Appalachia. Players can now experience the game as a Ghoul, thanks to Bethesda's update released on March 18. This season introduces a variety of ghoul-related features, mechanics, and new cosmetics, allowing players to completely redesign their C.A.M.P.
Unleash the Ghoul Within
To become a Ghoul, players must embark on the "Leap of Faith" questline, which leads them to a new area in the Savage Divide. Here, they'll encounter new characters who assist in the transformation process known as Ghoulification. As a Ghoul, players gain access to unique abilities like Glow and Feral, along with 30 exclusive Ghoul Perks, dubbed "Gherks" by Bethesda.
The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics with a Feral meter. Depending on the meter's level, players receive various boosts. However, if the meter drops to 0%, gameplay changes dramatically, granting a +150% increase in Melee Damage but at the cost of -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, and a -300% reduction in Hip-fire and V.A.T.S. Accuracy.
On the other hand, the Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, making them immune to diseases and mutations, and even causing them to emit a glow. This ability boosts maximum health, heals damage, and enhances the effects of Ghoul-exclusive Perks.
Players can choose from 28 perks and two new legendary perks designed specifically for Ghouls. Note that perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are not available to Ghouls, as they don't need these benefits.
A Day in the Life of a Ghoul
Life as a Ghoul in Fallout 76's wasteland comes with its advantages and challenges. The new abilities and Gherks make navigating the radiation-rich environment easier. However, interactions with factions like the Brotherhood of Steel can become hostile, potentially locking players out of certain questlines.
To overcome these limitations, players can seek help from a new NPC named Jaye, who provides disguises allowing Ghouls to access blocked content. If the Ghoul lifestyle isn't working out, players can revert to being human via the Character Screen. This change is permanent, as the "Leap of Faith" quest cannot be repeated. However, players can purchase a Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms if they wish to return to their Ghoul form.
Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes
With the Season 20 update, players can now purchase a Level 50 Character Boost for 1500 Atoms. This boost is perfect for new players eager to dive into the game's multiplayer features, Daily Ops, Public Events, and some story content immediately.
The update also includes bug fixes, balance tweaks, accessibility improvements, combat adjustments, and weapon damage changes. Bethesda has also teased the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update, scheduled for April 29, as part of their season calendar.
Since its rocky launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has seen consistent updates that have improved its standing. Now, with a "Mostly Positive" review on Steam and 76% positive feedback, the game continues to thrive on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
