The long-awaited GTA 6 mapping project has shifted into high gear following the release of Trailer 2, with one of its leading members telling IGN that "it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." The fervor within the GTA 6 Mapping Discord is palpable as its 370 members, soon to exceed 400, dive into the new details unveiled by Trailer 2.
"It's an information overload - it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year," Garza, who manages the Discord server, shared with IGN. "We have so much new content to work on and we're really just getting started."
The GTA 6 Mapping Discord project emerged in the wake of the massive September 2022 leaks, which some fans believe were cheekily referenced by Rockstar at the beginning of Trailer 2. The project's mission is to create the most accurate map of GTA 6 possible. Prior to Trailer 2, efforts were based on those leaks and December 2023's Trailer 1.
The most recent iteration of the GTA 6 map, released at the end of March by project lead DuPz0r, has quickly become outdated with the wealth of new information provided by Trailer 2. This flood of data is helping to forge a more precise and detailed map.

In addition to confirming plot details and characters, and releasing 70 new GTA 6 screenshots, Rockstar has unveiled information and visuals of explorable locations within the state of Leonida, GTA 6's rendition of Florida.
Confirmed locations from this week's reveal include Vice City, GTA 6’s take on Miami, the tropical Leonida Keys archipelago, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga, a national landmark near the state's northern border.
The dedicated volunteers will meticulously comb through the trailer to pinpoint the exact locations of all visible elements, aiming to match the fictional settings with their real-world counterparts. This effort will culminate in an updated map, eagerly anticipated by fans for a more comprehensive preview of what GTA 6 will offer upon its May 2026 release.
Should Rockstar release additional GTA 6 assets or gameplay footage before then, the volunteers are ready to refine their work further. The true test of their accuracy will come only when GTA 6 launches, allowing them to compare their fan-made map with the actual game.

Looming over the GTA 6 mapping project is the threat of intervention by Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two. In March, a modder who had created a playable version of the GTA 6 map within GTA 5 halted the project after receiving a takedown notice from Take-Two. This mod was based on the GTA 6 mapping project.
Last year, when asked about potential action from Take-Two, Garza expressed "some mild concern." He explained, "This project has been going on for quite some time with no direct disruption to our community. However, I always keep it into consideration if they intend on communicating with us in the future for any reason. We do not explicitly showcase leaked material in the map, so I do not believe they would take that down in particular. I believe they are aware that this project gathers popularity and interest in the game, since everyone wants to see how the world may look like. This can be one of the reasons why they haven’t done anything, since it’s not too negative. If I were ever in the situation of receiving a cease and desist though, then I would respectfully cease and desist. As we get closer to a precise map, it may be possible to receive that notice in the future."
While we await further developments, you can explore all the details we’ve discovered so far about GTA 6 and delve into the fan theories emerging from Trailer 2.
