Big news for Netflix Games subscribers who enjoy Grand Theft Auto! Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City are leaving the Netflix Games catalog next month.
Why are these GTA games leaving Netflix, and when?
This isn't a surprise move. Netflix licenses games similarly to movies and TV shows, and the licenses for these two GTA titles are expiring. You'll see a "Leaving Soon" notification on the games before they're removed.
GTA III and Vice City were added to Netflix Games exactly one year ago, reflecting a 12-month licensing agreement with Rockstar Games. After December 13th, these games will be unavailable to Netflix subscribers. If you're currently playing, it's time to finish up! However, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas remains on the platform.
What's next for these games?
If you haven't completed them, you can purchase them from the Google Play Store. The Definitive Editions of Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City are available individually for $4.99 each, or as a trilogy for $11.99.
Unlike the sudden removal of Samurai Shodown V and WrestleQuest last year, Netflix is providing advance notice. This is somewhat surprising, considering the GTA trilogy contributed significantly to Netflix Games' subscriber growth in 2023.
Rumors suggest Rockstar and Netflix are collaborating on potential future projects, possibly including remastered versions of Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, and even Chinatown Wars. Let's hope this rumor proves accurate!
