Jason Momoa, renowned for his role as Aquaman in the former DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to transition to the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) as the iconic character Lobo in the upcoming film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, slated for release in June 2026. This movie marks the second installment in the new DCU, following James Gunn's Superman, which is scheduled for a summer release.
Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, hails from the planet Czarnia and possesses superhuman strength and immortality. As the last survivor of his planet, much like Superman, Lobo's character was crafted by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen and debuted in Omega Men #3 back in 1983. Momoa has expressed immense enthusiasm for the role, citing Lobo as his favorite comic book character and highlighting the aesthetic similarities between them.
From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa offered a glimpse into Lobo’s role in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He hinted at a brief but impactful appearance, emphasizing his dedication to embodying the character accurately. "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play," Momoa stated. "That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool."
When pressed about the extent of Lobo's screen time, Momoa clarified, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn unveiled the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, though it was quite enigmatic. Gunn shared this update on Bluesky, confirming that production had commenced on *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow*, with *House of the Dragon*'s Milly Alcock portraying Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. The film draws heavily from the graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. This story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's assistance to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Matthias Schoenaerts is set to play Krem, with Eve Ridley as Ruthye. The cast is further bolstered by David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El and Emily Beecham as her mother.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is poised to be a significant addition to the DCU, following closely on the heels of the upcoming Superman and preceding the Clayface movie, set for September 2026.
