Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Opening Weekend Success
250,000+ Concurrent Steam Players And Counting
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has impressively surpassed 250,000 concurrent players on Steam as of February 9, 2025. Creative Director Daniel Vávra celebrated this milestone on Twitter (X), highlighting the peak of 256,206 players. Since its launch, KCD2 has consistently broken its own records for concurrent players on Steam:
- February 4 - 159,351 concurrent Steam players

- February 8 - 233,586 concurrent Steam players
- February 9 - 256,206 concurrent Steam players
According to various reports, KCD2 has sold an estimated 890,000 copies on Steam alone. It currently ranks as the 2nd top-selling game on Steam, trailing only behind Counter-Strike 2, and is the 5th most-played game, following CS2, Dota 2, Marvel Rivals, and Banana.
The game achieved 1 million sales at launch, and with the current estimates, it's on track to reach 2 million copies sold shortly.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Attention To Detail
The remarkable success of KCD2's opening weekend can be attributed to Warhorse Studios' meticulous attention to detail, enhancing the game's immersion and enjoyment. The franchise is renowned for its commitment to realism, with features like food spoiling, the necessity to clean clothes and armor, and the need to sharpen swords. KCD2 builds upon this foundation by introducing new elements that further immerse players in a 15th-century medieval setting.
Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner shared with GamesRadar a new stealth mechanic where players must manage their cleanliness. Bittner noted, "If you get the debuff that, you know, your body odour, you smell. There's like a circle around you," indicating that players will be easily detectable if they don't maintain personal hygiene.
Additionally, the game introduces "handgonnes," an early type of firearm, which Bittner discussed with PC Gamer. He described these weapons as challenging to use, with long reload times, poor accuracy, and safety risks, acknowledging, "So we knew it was going to be a meme weapon, but we were cool with it."
PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized the studio's commitment to authenticity over hyperaccuracy, stating, "We want to have an intriguing and cool and fun and nice videogame. However, we try extremely hard to make it as authentic as possible. We double check the stuff, so that when the player plays it, or whenever someone checks it, that the things that are listed in there are at least plausible."
Post-Launch Roadmap
Warhorse Studios has outlined a comprehensive post-launch roadmap to keep players engaged throughout 2025. KCD2 will offer free updates alongside paid DLC content.
The free updates, scheduled for Spring 2025, include the Barber feature, Hardcore mode, and Horse Racing. Paid DLCs will follow with "Brushes with Death" in Summer, "Legacy of the Forge" in Autumn, and "Mysteria Ecclesiae" in Winter.
Given its phenomenal opening weekend, KCD2 is poised to continue its commercial success with these updates and future expansions, potentially setting new records along the way.
