Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's "Necessary Evil" quest presents a difficult moral dilemma: siding with Semine or Hashek. This guide outlines the choices and their consequences.
Quest Walkthrough:
Following the "Back in the Saddle" quest, "Necessary Evil" begins. Von Bergow tasks Hans and Henry with gathering intelligence from Nebakov Fortress, followed by prisoner interrogation.
Prisoner Interrogation:
Successful interrogation requires Speech or Intimidation checks:
- "We’ll put in a good word for you." (20 Impression)
- "Istvan and I are old acquaintances." (20 Impression)
- "Otherwise, it’ll end badly for you." (17 Intimidation)
The interrogation reveals Semine's complicity with bandits. Reporting to von Bergow, you choose between revealing Semine's involvement (leading to an attack on Semine's town) or concealing it (resulting in an attack on Nebakov).
Attacking Semine or Nebakov:
Attacking Semine leads to further complex choices involving Hashek. Attacking Nebakov concludes the quest immediately, avoiding the bloodshed in Semine's town. However, letting Semine escape without consequences ignores the innocent lives lost due to his actions.
Choosing Semine requires staying with the party; otherwise, the town will be massacred.
Siding with Semine or Hashek:
Upon reaching Semine's town, you choose between Hashek (seeking brutal revenge) and Semine.
- "Hashek is right." (Sides with Hashek)
- "Olda deserves a trial." (Sides with Semine)
Siding with Semine, despite his wrongdoing, prevents further unnecessary bloodshed caused by Hashek's scorched-earth approach. After defeating Hashek, advise Semine to burn his estate and flee.
Note: Siding with Hashek results in the town's complete destruction. You also decide Olda's fate (life or death).
Reporting to Von Bergow:
Finally, report to von Bergow. You can remain silent, letting Hans explain, or speak up yourself. Silence allows both to remain in von Bergow's favor, leading to plans against Nebakov.
