"Nintendo Switch 2: Use Joy-Con Mouse Controls on Home Menu"

Author : Julian Update:May 18,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the innovative Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls not just in games, but also on the Home screen. This exciting feature has been the talk of the town ever since the Nintendo Switch 2 was unveiled, with fans eager to see how the new Joy-Con's capabilities would enhance their gaming experience. Last month, we received the official word that the Joy-Con can switch into a "mouse mode," allowing players to glide the controllers across surfaces and use the analog sticks to mimic left-click and right-click actions, similar to a conventional mouse. What's more, players have the flexibility to use two Joy-Con in mouse mode at the same time, either one in each hand or with one in standard mode and the other in mouse mode.

Now, thanks to a demonstration on the Nintendo Today app and a subsequent share on X/Twitter, we have a clearer picture of how these Joy-Con 2 mouse controls will function on the Switch 2's Home menu.

According to Nintendo, "If you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen." They further detailed that to activate the cursor, you simply need to set the Joy-Con 2 on a flat surface such as a table and move it as demonstrated. Additionally, Nintendo noted, "While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus," and emphasized that these mouse controls are available on the Home menu as well as in compatible software. When you want to revert to using the thumbstick, just reposition the Joy-Con 2 horizontally.

While the full list of games compatible with these mouse controls is yet to be revealed, Nintendo has already showcased the technology in action with the Switch 2 versions of Mario Party Jamboree, Metroid Prime 4, and the unique wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.

The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is slated to launch on June 5. Pre-orders for the Switch 2 began on April 24, maintaining a price point of $449.99, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
