Xbox Confirms Continued Support for Nintendo Switch 2

Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has reaffirmed Xbox's commitment to Nintendo platforms following the Switch 2 announcement. In an interview with Variety, Spencer emphasized the partnership's strategic value for expanding Xbox's gaming community beyond its traditional ecosystems.

Xbox's Cross-Platform Strategy Extends to Switch 2

Spencer revealed Xbox's plans to continue supporting Nintendo's new console, mirroring their current support for the original Switch. "Nintendo has been a great partner," Spencer told Variety. "The Switch platform gives us access to players who don't use PC or Xbox hardware - growing our fanbase for Xbox Game Studios franchises remains a priority."

A Mutual Respect Between Gaming Giants

The Xbox executive expressed admiration for Nintendo's industry impact: "I truly believe in Nintendo's importance to our industry. Building this partnership and securing Nintendo's support for our franchises represents a key part of Xbox's future." Spencer previously praised Nintendo's innovation following the Switch 2 teaser reveal earlier this year.

This cross-platform philosophy isn't new for Microsoft. Recent years have seen Xbox titles like Pentiment and Obsidian's Grounded expand to Nintendo consoles through Xbox's multi-platform initiative. "Our strategy focuses on making games available everywhere possible - whether through cloud, PC, or multiple consoles," Spencer explained.

Industry Collaboration Without Distraction

When asked if Nintendo's announcement affected Xbox's own hardware roadmap, Spencer remained focused: "We should all concentrate on our respective communities rather than react to competitors' moves. While I admire creative work across the industry, I'm confident in our existing plans."

The Nintendo Switch 2 launches on June 5, 2025. While pre-orders haven't begun, interested players can track availability through official Nintendo channels. With Microsoft's commitment confirmed, anticipation builds for which Xbox titles might appear on Nintendo's next-generation hardware.
