Housemarque unveiled Saros, their next major release following the 2022 roguelite shooter Returnal. Featuring Rahul Kohli, Saros launches in 2026 exclusively for PlayStation 5 with enhanced PS5 Pro capabilities.
Debuted during PlayStation's State of Play, Saros embodies Housemarque's signature style. Players assume the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer navigating a volatile eclipse-ridden planet dominated by colossal entities. The gameplay teaser—featuring bullet-hell firestorms and the mantra "return stronger"—clearly channels Returnal's DNA while introducing fresh mechanics.
Creative director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "pinnacle refinement" of Housemarque's gameplay-driven philosophy. While establishing a new solo franchise, it expands upon Returnal's third-person combat framework.
The sequel implements notable innovations, however. Louden emphasized Saros introduces persistent upgrades—players' weaponry and gear remain enhanced despite the dynamic world reshuffling upon death.
Housemarque will reveal extended gameplay footage later this year.
