Starfield PS5 Release Hinted by PlayStation Logo in Creation

Author : Natalie Update:May 06,2025

Speculation about Starfield's potential release on PlayStation 5 intensified over the weekend when fans noticed a PlayStation logo on Bethesda's official Creations website. The logo was linked to a work-in-progress ship decals Creation for Starfield, which was later removed. Despite the removal, the brief appearance has fueled speculation that Bethesda's sci-fi game, currently exclusive to PC and Xbox, might soon make its way to the PS5.

This development has led fans to wonder if Bethesda is planning a significant content update or perhaps a new expansion to coincide with Starfield's anticipated PS5 release. The game has seen little excitement in recent months, particularly following the lukewarm reception to the Shattered Space expansion. Microsoft, Bethesda's parent company, is expected to host a summer showcase this year, which could provide more details about Starfield's future.

Bethesda has teased "exciting things" planned for Starfield in 2024, amid growing player frustration over the lack of communication and updates. In June 2024, Bethesda reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Starfield and confirmed at least one more story expansion following Shattered Space. In an interview with the YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, Bethesda Game Studios' Todd Howard stated that the studio aims to release an annual story expansion for "hopefully a very long time."

Starfield was launched in September 2023, marking Bethesda's first new intellectual property in years and its first mainline single-player game since Microsoft's acquisition of parent company ZeniMax Media in March 2021. IGN's review of Starfield gave it a 7/10, noting that "Starfield has a lot of forces working against it, but eventually the allure of its expansive roleplaying quests and respectable combat make its gravitational pull difficult to resist."

In January, Microsoft's gaming boss Phil Spencer hinted at the possibility of Starfield coming to PS5. Reports from March 2024 suggested that both Starfield and MachineGames' Indiana Jones and the Great Circle were under consideration for PS5. While Indiana Jones was confirmed for a PS5 release in spring 2025, Starfield has yet to be officially announced for the platform, though Spencer's comments suggest it could happen.

Several Xbox games are already available on PS5, including Rare's Sea of Thieves, Tango Gameworks' Hi-Fi Rush, and Obsidian's Grounded and Pentiment. Microsoft also publishes Minecraft on PlayStation consoles and plans to release Doom: The Dark Ages and Ninja Gaiden 4 on PS5 later this year. Playground's Forza Horizon 5 is also slated for a PS5 release soon. There are even rumors that Microsoft might bring Halo to PlayStation, ending decades of Xbox exclusivity.

Phil Spencer has stated that Xbox's multiplatform strategy is partly driven by the need to increase revenue for Microsoft's gaming division, especially following the $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. "We run a business," Spencer said in August last year. "It's definitely true inside of Microsoft the bar is high for us in terms of the delivery we have to give back to the company. Because we get a level of support from the company that's just amazing and what we're able to go do.

"So I look at this, how can we make our games as strong as possible? Our platform continues to grow, on console, on PC, and on cloud. It's just going to be a strategy that works for us."

Bethesda Game Studios, with its 450-person team, is currently managing five projects: Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6, Fallout 76, mobile games, and external development partnerships. This busy schedule underscores the studio's commitment to delivering high-quality content across multiple platforms and genres.
