This week, Konami delighted fans of classic RPGs with a live stream dedicated entirely to the beloved Suikoden series. It's been over a decade since the last entry—a Japanese and PSP-only side story—and anticipation for what was to come ran high. The announcements, however, elicited a mixed bag of emotions: a new Suikoden anime (exciting!) and a new Suikoden game for mobile with gacha mechanics (less so).
Starting with the anime, titled Suikoden: The Anime, it's set to adapt the events of Suikoden 2 and marks Konami's first venture into animation production. While specifics on its visual style and international availability remain scarce, a brief scenic clip was shared:

This news is thrilling for dedicated Suikoden fans and could serve as an enticing introduction for newcomers if it becomes widely accessible.
The second major announcement, Suikoden Star Leap, has left the fanbase with mixed feelings. The game boasts a stunning visual style reminiscent of Octopath Traveler, featuring 2D sprites set against 3D backgrounds. Set a few years before Suikoden 1 and after Suikoden 5, it maintains the series' tradition with 108 characters. However, the decision to release it exclusively on mobile platforms has sparked some concern. The inclusion of gacha mechanics and ongoing monetization is particularly disappointing for a franchise known for its premium console and PC releases. Fans will have to see how these monetization choices impact gameplay and character collection.
In the interim, Suikoden enthusiasts can look forward to the Suikoden I&II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars, which re-releases the first two games in the series. A new trailer was showcased during the live event, and the collection is set to launch tomorrow, March 6.
