Sydney Sweeney Stars in New Split Fiction Film Adaptation

Author : Joseph Update:May 12,2025

Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in *Madame Web*, is set to star in the movie adaptation of the acclaimed video game *Split Fiction*. According to Variety, the film is taking significant strides forward, with *Wicked* director Jon M. Chu at the helm and the script penned by the talented duo behind *Deadpool & Wolverine*, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The project, spearheaded by video game adaptation specialists Story Kitchen, is now being pitched to Hollywood studios, setting the stage for an anticipated bidding war.

One of the burning questions surrounding the film is which of the two sisters from the game, Zoe or Mio, Sweeney will portray. As of now, Variety reports that this decision remains pending.

Launched in March, the game sold over 2 million copies within its first week and has been confirmed as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. IGN's review praised the game, awarding it a 9/10 and describing it as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another, Split Fiction is a rollercoaster of constantly refreshed gameplay ideas and styles – and one that’s very hard to walk away from."

This isn't the only Hazelight title making its way to the big screen. *It Takes Two*, another massive hit with over 23 million copies sold, is also slated for a movie adaptation, rumored to feature Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

While the success of these adaptations is not guaranteed, the current wave of successful video game-to-film projects suggests Hollywood is eager to capitalize on this trend. Last year, Story Kitchen announced several other adaptations, including a film based on Square Enix's *Just Cause*, directed by Ángel Manuel Soto of *Blue Beetle* fame, as well as adaptations of *Dredge*, *Kingmakers*, *Sleeping Dogs*, and even a live-action *Toys 'R' Us* movie.

Meanwhile, Hazelight is not resting on its laurels and is already teasing its next game, keeping fans eagerly anticipating what's next from the innovative studio.
