This month, we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, the epic conclusion to the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. The film hit theaters on May 19, 2005, and marked the last Star Wars movie directed by George Lucas before he sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012.
Going into Revenge of the Sith, fans were keenly aware that this was the moment when Anakin Skywalker would succumb to the Dark Side and transform into Darth Vader. A lingering question was the fate of the other Jedi. The film introduced Order 66, a sinister plot orchestrated by Palpatine, where Clone Troopers, who had fought alongside the Jedi during the Clone Wars, were commanded to turn against and eliminate them. Given the thousands of Jedi in service, it was plausible that some would evade this purge—beyond the few whose survival was essential for the continuity of the Original Trilogy.
In the years since, canon Star Wars stories have introduced several dozen Jedi who survived Order 66. We've compiled a list of the top 10 survivors who have left a significant mark on the Star Wars universe. These Jedi, ranging from Padawans to Masters, managed to survive beyond the initial execution of Order 66, with some continuing to influence the galaxy's fate for years to come, while others met their end shortly after. The fates of a few remain shrouded in mystery. Yet, each of these Jedi lived to see another day after Palpatine's chilling command: "Execute Order 66."
To clarify, our criteria for this list include Jedi who were part of the Jedi Order before Order 66, regardless of their rank—from Jedi Initiate to Jedi Master. This excludes Force-users like Maul and his former Master, Palpatine, as well as those like Jod Na Nawood, who received informal training but were never officially part of the Jedi Order.
A point of contention was whether Asajj Ventress should be included. She was trained by Jedi Ky Narec for over 20 years on Rattatak and was declared his Padawan. However, she never visited Coruscant or met the Jedi Council before Narec's death, and later turned to the Dark Side as Dooku's apprentice. Therefore, she's considered an honorable mention due to her ambiguous Jedi status.
