Firaxis Advises Gamers: 'Tackle Tutorial' In Civ 7

Author : Olivia Update:Feb 23,2025

Firaxis' Creative Director, Ed Beach, urges even seasoned Civilization players to utilize the tutorial for their initial Civilization 7 campaign. His Steam post highlights the game's significant departures from previous iterations, particularly the new Ages system (Antiquity, Exploration, Modern), which introduces Age Transitions impacting civilization selection, Legacy retention, and world evolution. This unprecedented system necessitates a learning curve.

Beach justifies the default "Small" map size, arguing that the reduced number of empires (three on the starting continent, plus others discovered later) simplifies mastering Civ 7's mechanics, especially the revamped Diplomacy system and its management of Diplomatic Influence. He recommends the "Continents Plus" map type to ease players into ocean exploration, a crucial aspect of the Exploration Age.

The tutorial, automatically enabled for first-time players, provides timely guidance on new features. Beach strongly recommends veteran players use it for their first full campaign, emphasizing the numerous system upgrades and revisions. The game features four Advisors, each offering quest-based tutorials; Beach suggests focusing on one at a time.

Even after mastering the core mechanics, Beach advises switching to the "Only Warnings" setting, which alerts players to potential setbacks. He reveals even the Firaxis development team utilizes this feature.

Firaxis also recently detailed Civilization 7's post-launch content roadmap during a livestream, revealing that Great Britain will be released as DLC. Civilization 7 launches on PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on February 11th, with Deluxe Edition access beginning February 6th.
