Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Nixes Denuvo

Warhorse Studios confirms that their upcoming medieval RPG, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2), will launch completely DRM-free. This announcement directly addresses player concerns and dispels rumors suggesting otherwise.

Dismissing DRM Claims

Following persistent speculation, Warhorse Studios' PR head, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, definitively stated during a Twitch stream that KCD2 will not utilize any DRM system, including Denuvo. He clarified that earlier discussions were misinterpreted, leading to widespread misinformation. Stolz-Zwilling urged players to cease inquiries about DRM, emphasizing that any unconfirmed reports are inaccurate.

"KCD 2 will not have Denuvo, or any DRM at all," Stolz-Zwilling stated. "We never confirmed otherwise. There was some miscommunication, but the final decision is DRM-free."

The absence of DRM is a significant point for many gamers, as DRM has often been associated with performance problems. Denuvo, in particular, despite its anti-piracy function, has faced considerable criticism for allegedly impacting game performance and playability. Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, has attributed the negative perception to misinformation and confirmation bias.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is scheduled for release in February 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Set in medieval Bohemia, the game follows Henry, a blacksmith apprentice, as he confronts the devastating destruction of his village. Backers who contributed at least $200 to the Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy.
