Bloodmoon Island is a secluded and enigmatic location situated in the northern expanse of Reaper's Coast. The island is completely encircled by a dense, deadly mist known as the Deathfog, and the only land bridge connecting it to the mainland lies in ruins. This makes conventional access impossible at first glance. However, stepping onto Bloodmoon Island not only deepens the game’s central storyline but also opens up opportunities for unique side quests and discoveries.
Unfortunately, the game does not offer clear guidance on how to bypass the Deathfog and reach the island, which can leave players searching high and low across Reaper's Coast for clues. Below are the most effective methods to successfully cross into Bloodmoon Island and continue your journey in *Divinity: Original Sin 2*.
Spirit Vision Shows The Way
Although Bloodmoon Island was once connected to the mainland via a bridge, it has long since collapsed, cutting off direct passage. The remnants of this bridge lie northeast of Cloisterwood, near the area where Jahan and Witch Alice are located.
Upon reaching the bridge site, you’ll unlock the Driftwood Fields waypoint. From here, cast Spirit Vision to reveal the invisible fragments of the old bridge. While parts of it remain intact, others are missing or rigged with traps, making traversal tricky. Fortunately, several tools and abilities can help you navigate this challenge:
- Gloves of Teleportation: Obtainable in Act 1, these gloves allow teleportation without needing to learn the skill. You can teleport each party member individually across the broken sections, though it may take some time.
- Translocation Skills: Abilities such as Phoenix Dive, Cloak and Dagger, and Tactical Retreat let you instantly move from one point to another. These skills make crossing much easier, although not all companions may have them.
- Teleporter Pyramids: With two pyramids, you can send one companion equipped with a pyramid across using translocation. Once they arrive safely, the rest of your party can teleport directly to their location.
- Fast Travel: After one party member reaches the island and unlocks the Bloodmoon Island waypoint, the remaining members can fast travel there directly.
Take The Ferry Across The Deathfog
If Fane is part of your party, he can provide an alternative method of entry thanks to his undead nature—he is immune to the effects of the Deathfog. This gives him the unique ability to board the ferry operated by an undead ferryman located northwest of Cloisterwood.
However, attempting to cross the Deathfog with the entire party results in tragedy—only Fane survives the journey. The others perish during the trip. If Fane travels alone, he arrives safely and can then activate the Bloodmoon Island waypoint, allowing the rest of the party to fast travel to him.
Taking The Ferry Without Fane In The Party
If Fane isn't in your group, you can still attempt the ferry crossing using a clever workaround involving the Teleporter Pyramids:
- Unchain one of your party members and give them a Teleporter Pyramid.
- Let that character board the ferry and cross the Deathfog, knowing they will die upon arrival.
- With the rest of the party still alive and linked, use the second Teleporter Pyramid to warp to the deceased companion’s location.
- Once there, resurrect your fallen comrade using a spell or scroll, and continue your adventure on Bloodmoon Island.
That said, if Fane isn’t in your party, it’s usually faster and safer to use the bridge method instead of risking death and resurrection just to enter the island.
A final word of caution: avoid attacking the Undead Ferryman unless you're prepared for the consequences. He can unleash a powerful Deathfog attack that instantly kills anyone caught in its range. If you do decide to fight him, be sure to quick save beforehand. Defeating him rewards you with a Soothing Cold skillbook, a basic belt, and 3,750 XP.
